Shocked by the earthquake-related problems in Groningen, I immersed myself deeply in this subject because it has been going on for years without any significant action from the government. The fact that this issue remained unresolved for so long affected me, and therefore I felt the urge to do something with it.
My focus was on exploring visual elements that, for me, symbolize the long-lasting struggle of the people of Groningen. In particular, I became fascinated by the braces that are used to reinforce houses. To me, they represent not only stability and strength, but also the resilience of the people of Groningen who are dealing with this situation, which has been neglected by the government.
Creating art around this subject felt like a necessary outlet to express the frustration and injustice that I experience in relation to it. My hope is that my work is not only a visual statement, but also gives a voice to those who have suffered in silence for years.
